Fairview Health Services, a Minneapolis-based academic health system operating without a permanent CEO, has dropped out of the Minnesota Hospital Association. The system did not explain why it left, but released a statement saying it “will re-evaluate participation in 2017.” Fairview's departure from the MHA represents a tumultuous event for the state, considering the system's size and scope. Its exit also comes at a time of disorder and change within the system. Fairview is integrating a major physician group and insurer without a permanent CEO to oversee the efforts. The system stated that Rulon Stacey left last year for “professional differences and personal reasons.” David Murphy, Fairview's board chair, is the interim CEO.
