Mayfield City School District is opening an on-site health and wellness center clinic at Mayfield High School, operated by the Cleveland Clinic AtWork program.
The Wildcat Health and Wellness Center, which opens Wednesday, Jan. 6, offers select health care services to more than 2,500 school district employees and their families members who are covered by the district's life insurance.
A Clinic nurse practitioner and medical assistant will staff the facility, where services include management and treatment of chronic conditions (such as diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol, asthma, heart disease and thyroid conditions) and care for acute medical conditions (including cold, flu, infections and strep throat), according to a news release.
The Wildcat Health and Wellness Center fits in with the district's efforts to reduce doctor's office visits and co-pays, to provide healthier lifestyle options, to educate employees about health care and to reduce absences and chronic medical conditions for employees.
“We believe it will have a positive impact on the overall health and well-being of our staff and their families, while achieving cost containment measures for the district,” said Scott Snyder, treasurer of Mayfield City School District, in a statement.
The school district is the latest employer to partner with the Clinic through its AtWork Program, which aims to help reduce health care spending by offering on-site services to manage employees' health and return them to work as soon as possible.
“By working closely with the Mayfield City School District, Cleveland Clinic is offering participants access to quality healthcare and the opportunity to play an active role in their own health, as well as lower overall healthcare costs,” said Dr. Jonathan Leizman, medical director of Cleveland Clinic AtWork, in a statement. “This clinic is an example of our innovative approach to making healthcare more easily accessible to patients.”
The facility's construction was funded through the district's self-insurance fund. The Mayfield City School District anticipates operating costs will be supported by reductions to the annual increase in the health insurance program, equivalent to 1% to 2%, according to a news release.
The Wildcat Health and Wellness Center offers adult and pediatric services in three exam rooms. It's open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
