Dr. Bernard Boulanger will start as executive vice president and chief clinical officer of Cleveland-based MetroHealth System on March 1.
He joins Daniel Lewis, MetroHealth's chief operating officer, to form a leadership duo that aligns economic and clinical efforts for hospital operations.
Dr. Alfred Connors, who served as chief medical officer for seven years, will now focus solely on his duties as chief quality officer, a role he took on in December 2014.
Boulanger comes to Cleveland from University of Kentucky HealthCare in Lexington, where he held a number of positions, most recently serving as system chief medical office. He also has been a trauma and general surgeon, medical director of inpatient services, associate chief medical officer for perioperative services, physician executive for UK Good Samaritan Hospital and enterprise director for surgery, endoscopy and interventional services, according to a news release.
"His extensive leadership experience in clinical operations and focus on value-based care closely align with MetroHealth's mission and vision,” Dr. Akram Boutros, president and CEO of MetroHealth, said in a statement.
“He understands the importance of collaborative decision-making and has the experience and skills that will strengthen the MetroHealth leadership dyad structure,” Boutros said. “I expect that he will help us accelerate our achievements around the fundamentals of quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.”
