Albert Wright will serve as the first COO of WVU Medicine, in addition to serving as president and CEO of WVU Hospitals.
West Virginia United Health System was rebranded as WVU Medicine earlier this year. WVU Hospitals is a multicampus hospital that is a part of WVU Medicine.
Wright, 43, was appointed COO of the Morgantown, W. Va.-based organization in November. He has served as president and CEO of WVU Hospitals for over a year.
Before joining WVU Hospitals, Wright served in a number of roles at UPMC in Pittsburgh, including VP of operations for UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside. He is a pharmacist by training.
Dr. Christopher Colenda, president and CEO of WVU Medicine, also announced in a staff e-mail that Dr. Dan Martich, the system's CMO, would now serve as president of WVU Medicine Community Physicians, a new physician division. Dottie Oakes, vice president and chief nursing officer at two WVU hospitals will become a systemwide CNO. Bob O'Neil, vice president and general counsel, was also promoted to senior vice president.
Colenda wrote that the appointments are “indicative of our continued growth” and are “meant to help further integrate our health system and position it for long-term success.”
