NYC Health and Hospitals has named Plachikkat Anantharam to succeed Marlene Zurack as the system's chief financial officer.
Zurack, 55, who joined the 11-hospital system 15 years ago, will retire at the end of the month. Anantharam, who was previously deputy director for health and social services for the New York City Office of Management and Budget, was appointed CFO Nov. 17.
In his prior role, Anantharam, 58, oversaw the NYC Health and Hospitals budget and financial reporting; reviewed the system's strategy and negotiated on behalf of the city-owned system, NYCHH said in a news release announcing his appointment.
“It is NYC Health and Hospitals' good fortune to have as our incoming CFO someone with an extensive background as a health and social-services budget expert,” said Dr. Ramanathan Raju, the system's president and CEO in the release.
Anantharam said in the statement that the system “faces numerous financial challenges and we will fight for every dollar the system deserves to ensure that taxpayer funds are maximized for the benefit of our patients.”
