George Masi, president and CEO of Houston's Harris Health System, and other leaders at his system and its health plan recently drew the ire of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for pushing for Medicaid expansion while the state was negotiating with the Obama administration for renewal of its big Medicaid waiver. In a podcast interview with Modern Healthcare reporter Virgil Dickson, Masi discusses the politics of Medicaid expansion and his system's recent tightening of its charity-care policy.
