Fresh off closing its Oct. 1 deal to join Warren-based Ascension Health Michigan, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester Hills is in the market for a new president.
Terry Hamilton, current president of St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospitals, is Crittenton's acting president, said Gwen MacKenzie, Ascension's Michigan market leader.
Former Crittenton CEO Roy Powell, who took over in 2013 after Lynn Orfgen retired, has resigned.
MacKenzie said Ascension is conducting its own executive search and expects to fill the position in four months. She said a Crittenton board committee chaired by Bob Lenihan and a physician advisory committee are providing input to Ascension's decision-making process.
Over the next several months, MacKenzie said Ascension and Crittenton will finalize a list of capital and clinical service improvement projects. Areas of focus include primary care, oncology, orthopedics and heart services.
Over the past five years, independent Crittenton lost more than $73 million on operations. However, various economies of scale, including debt service restructuring and conversion to Ascension's supply purchasing contracts is expected to save hundreds of thousands of dollars this year, MacKenzie said.
The two health organizations also are expected to share clinical and management integration strategies that is expected to boost patient volume and revenue, she said.
Crittenton is 18 miles north of Ascension's nearest hospital — St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights — and 38 miles southeast of Genesys Health in Grand Blanc.
Ascension Health operates 12 hospitals in Michigan, including five hospitals in the St. John Providence Health System in Detroit, Borgess Health in Kalamazoo, St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw and St. Joseph Health System in Tawas.
