Staffing giant AMN Healthcare Services has acquired B.E. Smith, a provider of interim healthcare leadership, executive search and advisory services.
The $160 million deal adds an established executive staffing firm to the San Diego-based family of companies that recruit and provide temporary staffing for physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and executives. The cash deal is expected to close in early January pending regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
B.E. Smith, which generates about $100 million a year in revenue, joins an AMN stable of staffing firms that includes MillicanSolutions for physicians and executives and The First String Healthcare for mid-to-high level nurse and clinical leadership positions.
"With increased demand and the evolution of new care delivery models, healthcare clients are faced with the critical challenge of recruiting the key executives and talent needed to lead the dramatic transformation their organizations are experiencing,” said AMN CEO Susan Salka. “The added strength of B.E. Smith's recruitment expertise and nationwide talent pool of healthcare leaders and executives further increases the strategic value that AMN Healthcare delivers to clients through our breadth of innovative workforce solutions.”
AMN is expected to realize an estimated $25 million in tax benefits from the deal. “The combined services of AMN and B.E. Smith provide increased value for all clients through an expanded network of quality healthcare leaders and a suite of workforce solutions offerings that are differentiated in the healthcare industry," said B.E. Smith CEO Doug Smith.
This past December, AMN acquired Avantas, an Omaha, Neb.-based company that offers clinical labor consulting and software. The firm has acquired a number of consulting and software companies over the years to create a one-stop shop for clinical workforce needs.
