Who: Jeff Fusile, 49
New role: President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia
Past work: Fusile most recently served as senior VP and CFO for the commercial and specialty business division of insurer Anthem, which owns Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia. He joined Anthem in 2011, after 22 years as a strategic management consultant, most recently as national leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers' health insurance consulting practice.
Leadership transition: Fusile replaces Morgan Kendrick, who is stepping down to become president of Anthem's national accounts segment. Before leading the Georgia affiliate, Kendrick was Anthem's VP of sales for national accounts.
Improving the marketplace: “The (federal insurance) exchange has come a long way, but it is still maturing. As the exchange evolves, we expect the market to normalize and provide more consistent choice and value for consumers.”
On provider plans: “The skills and talents it takes to be a great provider are far different than the ones needed to be a great health insurance company. Our preferred approach would be for providers and insurance companies to remain in their respective fields, each contributing their talents and strengths for the benefit of all members.”
