Two companies are planning a merger to become one of the largest health insurers in Michigan.
Flint-based HealthPlus of Michigan and Detroit-based Health Alliance Plan announced Monday that they have reached an agreement and have signed a letter of intent to merge operations. The planned effective date for the merger is Jan. 1, but it still needs to receive regulatory approval.
Both companies plan to maintain their longstanding relationships, including those with their individual and employer group customers, and partnerships they've established over the years to enhance the health and wellbeing of the communities they serve.
HealthPlus says its members will still have access to the same provider networks, coverage and services. It also says agents, labor and employer groups will receive the same service and competitive benefit packages.
