Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, Md., has expanded to better meet the needs of the growing Washington suburb.
Holy Cross Health, a part of Livonia, Mich.-based not-for-profit Trinity Health, added a seven-story 232,000-square-foot patient-care building to the hospital, its largest addition to the facility in over 50 years. The project adds 150 private patient rooms in critical care, intermediate care and medical-surgical units. The main hospital building's critical care and surgery areas were also expanded.
The new building will officially open on Nov. 1. The system held a ribbon cutting for the hospital earlier this month and named the hospital's campus after Kevin Sexton, CEO of Holy Cross.
Holy Cross Hospital's renovated surgery space also includes a designated space for older adults. Senior care has been a priority for the hospital, which created an eight-bed Seniors Emergency Center in 2008.
Officials are also working toward obtaining a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Holy Cross has invested more than $450 million in expanding its facilities in recent years, opening Holy Cross Germantown (Md.) Hospital in 2014 and building four health centers for underserved patients, according to a press release.
