The Idaho Attorney General's Office has asked to be kept in the loop about the possible sale of Lewiston's St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that the hospital could be sold to Capella Healthcare of Tennessee. If so, it will become a private, for-profit business for the first time since its 1902 founding.
The hospital is north central Idaho's biggest and is currently part of Ascension, a Catholic organization that is the nation's largest not-for-profit health system.
In a letter dated Aug. 10, the attorney general's office reminded St. Joe's that the Idaho Nonprofit Hospital Conversion Act requires the office to be notified in writing of a conversion to a for-profit entity.
St. Joe's spokeswoman Christina Metcalf says the AG's involvement is standard procedure.
