Kelly Johnson has been appointed chief nursing officer and VP for patient-care services at Stanford Children's Health and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, Palo Alto, Calif.
Johnson, 55, will begin her new role at Stanford on Nov. 2. She brings over 22 years of executive and CNO experience to Stanford Children's, which is a part of the two-hospital Stanford Health Care system.
Once she takes office, Johnson will play a key role in the expansion of the Children's Hospital, which is set to be completed by summer 2017. The construction will add 149 beds and nearly double the hospital's size, according to a release.
Since 2008, Johnson has served as chair of pediatric nursing and senior VP and CNO at Children's Hospital of Colorado in Aurora. Under her leadership, instances of preventable patient harm dropped 33% between 2013 to 2014, according to Stanford.
Before working in Aurora, Johnson was VP of patient-care services and CNO for 15 years at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colo., a rehabilitation facility.
