Juan Quintana is the new president of the Park Ridge, Ill.-based American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Quintana, 52, has been a certified registered nurse anesthetist for 15 year, most recently in Winnsboro, Texas. He began his new role this month and will serve for a one-year term, replacing Sharon Pearce, the immediate past president.
Quintana owns Sleepy Anesthesia Associates in Winnsboro, a CRNA practice that provides anesthesia services for rural hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. He also co-owns ABC Consultants, an anesthesia billing company also in Winnsboro.
Quintana is a former regional director on the AANA's board of directors and has served on several state and national committees. He has advocated for CRNAs to practice independently of physicians, including at the Veterans Health Administration, where the independence of advanced practice nurses such as CRNAs, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners has been a hot-button issue.
