'House of Cards' goes calling for a doctor or two

Removing knives from backs, washing blood off politicians' hands and hiding skeletons in closets aren't skills typically emphasized in medical school.

But such capabilities may have landed doctors and nurses with acting ambitions a spot on the next season of Netflix's hit show “House of Cards.”

The website Project Casting recently posted a casting call for nurses, doctors and other medical staff for the political melodrama's fourth season. Filming dates with the medical extras were scheduled for late August and early September in Baltimore.

The series' new season is expected to launch in early 2016.

“House of Cards” follows fictional American President Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, and his wife, Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright, as they scheme and manipulate to get their way, pushing anyone who disagrees with them under the bus (and sometimes under a train).

The casting notice called for women and clean-shaven men, ages 25 to 50 of all ethnicities, with natural hair color. It asked for healthcare professionals willing to work up to 12 hours a day—a requirement that probably didn't seem that out of the ordinary to hospital employees.

It's anyone's guess what types of scenes may have been filmed. But in the past, the show has included plot lines about abortion, alcoholism, marriage counseling and rape, along with the death of many characters' moral codes.

It's not for nothing the show has been compared to “Macbeth.”

Regardless of what happens during Season 4, know that those physicians you might see in the background in upcoming episodes don't just play doctors on TV.
