Patty Maysent has been named interim CEO of UC San Diego Health, and other news makers

Patty Maysent has been named interim CEO of UC San Diego Health. She replaces Paul Viviano, who led the system for the past three years and is now the new president and CEO of Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Maysent, 54, joined UC San Diego Health in 2012 as Viviano's chief of staff. In 2013, she became the system's chief strategy officer.

Before coming to UC San Diego, Maysent served in several executive roles, including CEO of St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif., where she built the St. Jude Heritage Health Foundation, a physician/hospital integrated delivery system.

John Ferrelli has been named president and CEO of two-campus Seton Medical Center in California, part of the Daughters of Charity Health System.

Ferrelli, 58, will oversee operations of Seton Medical Center in Daly City and Seton Coastside in Moss Beach. He replaces Joanne Allen, who is retiring after a 19-year career with the Daughters of Charity. Ferrelli has more than 25 years of experience leading health systems, acute-care hospitals and ambulatory centers, primarily in California. Most recently, he served as chief administrative officer at USC Norris Cancer Hospital in Los Angeles.

J.D. Hickey has been named CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Tennessee. He replaces Bill Gracey, 61, who has retired.

Hickey, 44, has been the Chattanooga-based plan's COO since 2012 and CEO-elect since June. He joined the company in 2011 as CEO of BlueCare Tennessee, the insurer's Medicaid managed-care subsidiary.

Before joining the insurer, Hickey was a principal at McKinsey & Co. and previously served as director of the TennCare Bureau, Tennessee's Medicaid program from 2004 to 2006.

Brian Griffin, former president of Anthem's New York health plan, has been named president of Anthem's overall commercial and specialty business. He replaces Ken Goulet, who is retiring.

Griffin, 56, will oversee Anthem's largest business line. The commercial and specialty segment includes Anthem's fully insured individual exchange, small-group and large-group employer health plans.

Since 2014, Griffin has served as president of Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, an Anthem subsidiary and the largest health insurer in New York.

Dr. K. Ranga Rama Krishnan has been named the next dean of Rush Medical College and senior VP of Rush University Medical Center, both in Chicago.

Krishnan, 59, will succeed Dr. Thomas Deutsch in October. Deutsch, 61, has served as dean of the college for the past 14 years and will continue as Rush University's provost, a role he has held for the past 11 years.

Most recently, Krishnan spent seven years as dean of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore, a joint venture between Duke University and the National University of Singapore.

Krishnan was previously a professor in Duke's department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and also served as its chair of psychiatry between 1998 and 2009. While at Duke, he created a translational research center focused on depression in the elderly, the only such center funded by the National Institutes of Health.
