The Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital on Thursday named Hossam “Sam” Bayoumy its Chief Executive Officer.
Bayoumy, 43, will begin his leadership role at the 60-bed acute-inpatient rehabilitation hospital after its slated December opening. The facility is a joint venture between Select Medical and Cleveland Clinic.
“Working for Cleveland Clinic and Select Medical—two world-class organizations that serve their communities and, on a broader scale, significantly contribute to the available body of research in rehabilitation medicine—is an honor,” Bayoumy said in a statement.
He joins the hospital from the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where he was the senior director of rehabilitation services. Bayoumy began his tenure at Kessler in 2004 as the clinical leader for its Brain Injury Program Leadership Team and oversaw Kessler's accreditation of its Brain Injury, Amputee, Spinal Cord, Stroke and General Rehabilitation Program in 2010 and 2013.
He also administered education and training across all three Kessler campuses and initiated the development of Kessler's Crisis Intervention education curriculum, as well as implementation of a revised institute-wide Behavior Management Program.
In 2007, Bayoumy received the Silvio O. Conte Award from the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey for his work in public awareness and education about brain injuries. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, and serves as a surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
“Sam has tremendous experience in operational leadership for both new hospital transitions and continuing operations,” said David Chernow, president and CEO of Select Medical, the joint venture's managing partner.
The new Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation Hospital will be located next to Cleveland Clinic's Avon medical campus.
