Elizabeth Dunne named president and CEO of PeaceHealth, and other newsmakers

Elizabeth Dunne has been named president and CEO of Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth.

Dunne, 59, will begin her new role in November. She replaces Alan Yordy, who retired this summer after 25 years with the Catholic system.

Dunne currently serves as a community CEO for Providence Health & Services in California. She has worked at the Renton, Wash.-based Catholic system since 2011.

Before joining Providence, Dunne held executive positions at Duarte, Calif.-based City of Hope and Memorial Health Services in Fountain Valley, Calif. She also served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force on active duty and 10 years in the Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Jim Berend has joined USMD Holdings, an Irving, Texas-based publicly traded health system, as executive VP and CFO.

Berend, 58, replaces Carolyn Jones, who retired in May.

Before joining USMD, Berend most recently served as executive VP and CFO of Victory Healthcare, which operates surgical hospitals in Texas. Previously, he was partner in charge of the healthcare practice at Grant Thornton in Dallas, as well as at Ernst & Young's Dallas office.

Carol Gore has been named chief nursing officer at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, Ark.

Gore will start on Aug. 31 at the hospital, part of Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare. She comes to St. Mary's with more than 25 years of experience working at healthcare organizations in Arkansas.

Since 2008, she has worked in several leadership positions at Northwest Health System, which is owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems. During that time, she served as CNO for Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Ark., and administrator and CNO of Willow Creek Women's Hospital in Johnson, Ark.

Dr. Fred Rothstein will retire as president of University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland at year's end, after leading the facility for 12 years.

Rothstein, 64, has been president of UH Case Medical Center since 2003. He oversaw the addition of the hospital's UH Seidman Cancer Center, its Center for Emergency Medicine and the neonatal intensive-care unit at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.

Before taking the helm as president at Case Medical, Rothstein held a number of leadership roles with University Hospitals, including senior VP of clinical integration and board chairman of the University Hospitals Medical Group. He also was acting president and CEO of the system from 2002 to 2003, during which he developed a 50-year affiliation agreement with Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine.

Tom Roos has been named chief accounting officer at insurance and health services giant UnitedHealth Group.

Roos, 42, replaces Eric Rangen, who is moving over to UnitedHealth's Optum unit to serve as a senior executive.

UnitedHealth has been investing heavily in Optum, which provides consulting and analytics work for providers, other payers and government agencies. Optum is UnitedHealth's most profitable segment.

Roos previously served as a partner at financial services firm Deloitte and has 19 years of experience working with insurance companies.
