Jim Berend has joined USMD Holdings, an Irving, Texas-based publicly held health system, as CFO and executive VP.
Berend, 58, joined the system Monday. He replaces Carolyn Jones, who retired in May.
Before joining USMD, Berend most recently served as CFO and executive VP of Victory Healthcare, which operates surgical hospitals in Texas. Before that, he was the partner in charge at the healthcare practice at professional services firm Grant Thorton, as well as at Ernst & Young in Dallas.
At the start of his career, Berend worked nearly 25 years at accounting firm Arthur Andersen, rising from staff accountant to partner and later leading the firm's healthcare practice in Dallas.
