Tom Roos has been named chief accounting officer of UnitedHealth Group, the Minnetonka, Minn.-based health insurance and services giant, effective Aug. 24.
Roos, 42, will replace Eric Rangen, who is moving over to UnitedHealth's Optum unit to serve as a senior executive, the company said.
UnitedHealth has been investing heavily into Optum, which provides consulting and analytics work for providers, other payers and government agencies. Optum is UnitedHealth's most profitable segment and posted $26.4 billion of revenue in the first half of this year.
Roos previously served as a partner at financial services firm Deloitte and has 19 years of experience working with insurance companies. His base salary will be $500,000 with the option of making $375,000 in annual bonuses, according to a regulatory filing. Roos will also receive UnitedHealth stock, which is up more than 21% so far in 2015.
