Mary Shehan has been appointed chief nursing officer at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Shehan, 57, started her new role in late July. She comes to the Tenet Healthcare Corp.-owned hospital with over 20 years of nursing leadership experience.
In her new role, she'll continue to teach as an associate adjunct professor at Rush University College of Nursing and North Park University's College of Nursing, both in Chicago. She'll also continue in her recently appointed role as commissioner of the North River Expanded Mental Health Services Program, a state initiative that ensures funding for low-income mental health patients.
Before joining Weiss Memorial, Shehan was senior VP and chief nursing executive at Swedish Covenant Hospital on Chicago's North Side. She also served as nursing home administrator for the hospital's extended-care facility, and helped the hospital attain Magnet designation as well as to develop a nursing shared-governance program.
Prior to working at Swedish Covenant, Shehan held leadership roles at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, Ill., and taught nursing at Triton Community College in River Grove, Ill.
