Who: Paul Viviano, 61
New role: President and CEO, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, effective Aug. 24. Replaces retiring CEO Richard Cordova.
Past roles: Currently serves as CEO of the UC San Diego Health System and associate vice chancellor for UC San Diego Health Sciences. Before that, he served as chairman and CEO at imaging provider Alliance HealthCare Services and president and CEO of the University of Southern California's Keck Hospital and USC Norris Cancer Hospital.
Expanding beyond the city: “There's a growth opportunity for us to serve more patients (and) work more closely with our colleagues in the community, to expand our physician network and to provide infrastructure throughout all of L.A. County and neighboring counties, to allow us to grow and improve the health of the community by caring for this most precious resource, our children.”
Focusing on outpatient care, partnering with more acute-care hospitals: “To improve access or care, to improve convenience of (care), and to serve a broad, growing community, I think it will become more of a fabric of what all children's hospitals do, especially those that are in big city environments like L.A.”
