Dignity Health names Stephen Foerster chief strategy officer for Bay Area, and other news makers

San Francisco-based Dignity Health has tapped Stephen Foerster to serve as chief strategy officer for its Bay Area service area.

Foerster, 47, starts June 29, moving on from his most recent role as VP of managed care at Dignity. He replaces Bill Graham, who in April became president of Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City, Calif.

Foerster will oversee strategy for Dignity's Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, and St. Mary's Medical Center and St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.

Before joining Dignity, Foerster was senior director of contract services at Washington Hospital Healthcare System in Fremont, Calif.

LifePoint Health has named Alan Larson south central Virginia market president and CEO of Danville (Va.) Regional Medical Center.

Larson, 53, will have regional oversight over Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County in addition to Danville Regional. He will start his new role Aug. 1, replacing interim market president and CEO Jerry Dooley.

Before joining LifePoint, Larson founded TD HealthCare, a healthcare consulting and interim leadership firm he has led as CEO since 2006. Before that, he was senior VP of Mercy Health System, a Conshohocken, Pa.-based organization owned by Trinity Health.

Rodney Van Donkelaar has been named CFO at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, S.C., a Capella Healthcare facility.

Van Donkelaar most recently was CFO at River Park Hospital in McMinnville, Tenn., another Capella facility. He also served as a market leader for the Capella-St. Thomas Health Network, which serves middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky.

He joined Capella in 2006 as controller of Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville, Ore. In 2008, he became CFO of Hartselle (Ala.) Medical Center and later was CFO at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tenn.

Dr. Steven Strongwater has been named president and CEO of Atrius Health, a not-for-profit multispecialty medical group serving eastern Massachusetts and a Pioneer accountable care organization.

Strongwater, 60, is chief transformation officer and chief medical executive for acquisition integration at Geisinger Health System, based in Danville, Pa. He will start his new role in late July or early August. He is replacing Dr. Dan Burnes, who has served as interim CEO after Dr. Gene Lindsey retired in 2013.

Before joining Geisinger, Strongwater was associate dean for clinical affairs at the University of Connecticut Health Center and medical director and director of clinical resource management, case management and utilization management at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Leonard Castiglione has been named CEO of the Greenville, S.C.-based Ob Hospitalist Group, one of the nation's largest hospitalist providers of OB-GYN services. He joins the medical group with 23 years of healthcare leadership experience.

Castiglione most recently served as CEO of Florida Gulf to Bay Anesthesia Holdings, Tampa, and held a number of senior executive positions with US Oncology for more than a decade.
