A federal grand jury in Baltimore has indicted 16 people associated with pain management clinics in Maryland Washington, alleging the facilities operated as “pill mills,” prescribing and dispensing oxycodone for people without a medical need.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday that the indictments were returned on May 20 and unsealed Wednesday. They allege that the owners, operators and other associated with four clinics plotted to distribute oxycodone.
The indictments name four pain clinics: PG Wellness Center of Oxon Hill, Md.; A Plus Pain Clinic of Washington; First Priority Health Care of Elkridge, Md.; and MPC Wellness Center of Greenbelt, Md.
Prosecutors allege the clinics would see hundreds of patients each month, prescribe painkillers and get paid in cash. Authorities say co-conspirators would get prescriptions, get them filled, and sell the pills.
