Dr. Steven Strongwater has been tapped to serve as the next president and CEO of Atrius Health, a Pioneer accountable care organization and nonprofit multi-specialty medical group serving eastern Massachusetts.
Strongwater, 60, is chief transformation officer and chief medical executive for acquisition integration at Geisinger Health, a hospital system based in Danville, Pa. He'll start in his new role in late July or early August, replacing Dr. Dan Burnes, who has served as interim CEO after Dr. Gene Lindsey retired in 2013.
Before working at Geisinger, Strongwater served as associate dean for clinical affairs at the University of Connecticut Health Center and as medical director and director of clinical resource management, case management and utilization management at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, among other positions at both institutions.
He has also served as an adviser to the Association of American Medical Colleges.
