Several health insurance carriers in Oregon are proposing large rate increases for 2016 individual plans.
The Oregon Insurance Division on Friday said Moda Health, the company that has captured half of Oregon's individual insurance market, proposed an increase of 25.6%. More than 101,000 Oregonians have bought individual Moda plans.
Health Republic Insurance, which has about 5,500 enrollees, is proposing a rate hike of 37.8%; LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon, which covers nearly 37,000 Oregonians, 38.5%; and PacificSource Health Plans, which covers about 9,000 people, 42.7%.
Only one carrier, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest, which has about 16,000 enrollees â proposed a rate decrease of 2%.
The Insurance Division must still approve the rates, and may decide not to grant the requests.
