The American Hospital Association has tapped Manuel Tomás León to lead its Institute for Diversity in Health Management.
León, 47, will begin his new role as president and CEO of the Institute on May 26. He replaces Fred Hobby, who is retiring and pursuing other opportunities after leading the organization for the past 10 years.
The Institute works with healthcare organizations and educators to expand leadership opportunities for ethnic minorities in health services management.
Before joining AHA, León served as president and CEO of the People of Color Network, a community-based accountable care network that serves about 6,000 patients in the greater Phoenix area. He also held leadership positions at the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and Friendship Community Mental Health Center in Phoenix.
An award-winning expert on diversity, León also helped launch a diversity and inclusion initiative headed by the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association and the state's chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
