The Cleveland Clinic has agreed to a cardiovascular-care alliance with Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare. Clinical policies, treatment protocols and research opportunities will be shared between the clinic and the Piedmont Heart Institute.
The Piedmont program, headquartered at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and employing nearly 125 affiliated cardiovascular specialists at more than 25 locations, includes the system's four other hospitals.
The Cleveland Clinic has formed cardiovascular-related alliances with 20 other hospitals, including recent agreements with Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health and North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, based in Great Neck, N.Y.
North Shore was chosen as the clinic's exclusive partner for heart-care referrals in New York. Baylor Scott & White has the same arrangement in the Southwest.
A Cleveland Clinic spokeswoman said the Piedmont arrangement is similar to the deal with Baylor Scott & White and includes referral exclusivity, but she did not specify its geographic boundaries.
