DaVita HealthCare Partners' CFO is stepping down from his post after less than two years in the role.
Garry Menzel, who joined the Denver-based company in September 2013, is leaving to return to the biopharmaceutical industry, according to a news release. Menzel served as COO and CFO of San Diego-based Regulus Therapeutics before joining DaVita.
James Hilger, DaVita's chief accounting officer, will fill in as interim CFO, effective Monday.
Menzel joined DaVita about a year after its merger with HealthCare Partners, a multispecialty medical group that seemed to take it far outside its core dialysis business. Since then, DaVita has struggled to boost HCP's financial performance as it grapples with lower Medicare reimbursement and slow growth in certain markets.
