Dr. John Pellicone has been appointed chief medical officer of HHC Metropolitan Hospital Center, part of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.
Pellicone, a pulmonologist, started his new role at the Manhattan hospital earlier this month. He most recently served as CMO of both Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, N.Y. and Nyack Hospital in Rockland County, N.Y., a part of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System.
When he joined Helen Hayes Hospital in 1989, Pellicone was director of its Special Care Unit, which was used primarily for weaning patients off of mechanical ventilation. He was appointed director of medicine at Nyack Hospital in 1996 and named as its CMO in 2001.
In 2002, Pellicone was also appointed as CMO of Helen Hayes Hospital, becoming New York-Presbyterian's first and only CMO to oversee two institutions.
