The Cleveland Clinic has agreed to a cardiovascular-care alliance with Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare. Clinical policies, treatment protocols and research opportunities will be shared between the clinic and the Piedmont Heart Institute.
The Piedmont program, headquartered at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and employing nearly 125 affiliated cardiovascular specialists at more than 25 locations, includes the system's other four hospitals. Piedmont announced the new agreement with Cleveland Clinic in a release.
The clinic has formed cardiovascular-related alliances with 20 other hospitals, including recent agreements with Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health and North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, based in Great Neck, N.Y., according to its website.
A Cleveland Clinic spokeswoman said the Piedmont deal is similar to the deal with Baylor Scott & White and includes referral exclusivity, but she didn't specify the boundaries for the area.
