The University of Maryland Medical Center is getting something other hospitals in the University of Maryland Medical System already had, its own board of directors. The Baltimore medical center previously was overseen by the system's board.
The growth and diversification of the system prompted it to create a dedicated governing board for the hospital, the hospital said.
Board members will oversee the hospital's strategic direction and monitor performance. The system's board will continue to oversee all local hospital boards, in addition to providing oversight for systemwide operations, shared services and the system's physician network.
Seven members were appointed to the new board, including board Chair Louise Michaux Gonzales, a partner and co-founder at the Hylton & Gonzales law firm in Baltimore. Gonzales is a current board member of the University of Maryland Medical System, and was appointed to the University System of Maryland's Board of Regents in 2010.
The new board also includes six ex-officio voting members, including UMMS Board Chair Stephen Burch, UMMC CEO Jeffrey Rivest, and UMMS CEO Robert Chrencik.
A full list of UMMC board members is located on the hospital's website.
