John Harney, president and CEO of University of Colorado Hospital, Aurora, has announced he will retire later this year.
Harney, 63, will leave the hospital on June 30 after seven years of service. He joined the organization in 2008 as COO and was promoted to his current position in 2012.
During Harney's tenure, the hospital gained a new inpatient tower and clinics, and expanded oncology and ophthalmology services. Harney also played a role in forming University of Colorado Health, a system that includes University of Colorado Hospital and four other hospitals serving Colorado, western Nebraska and southern Wyoming.
Before working at UC, Harney was executive VP at NYU Hospitals Center in New York City. He served in several leadership roles during his 21 years at NYU.
A national search to find Harney's replacement will begin later this spring.
