A conflict of interest is keeping one of Gov. Bruce Rauner's appointees off the state hospital board.
The Belleville News Democrat reports Richard Burrow III cannot serve on the Health Facilities and Services Review board because of a state law that prohibits members from having relatives who are employees or contractors with a hospital.
Courtney Avery of the review board says she doesn't know who in Burrow's family has a financial connection with the health care industry.
Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly tells the News Democrat that Burrow determined he would be in violation of the law. She says he "voluntarily removed his name from consideration."
The Republican governor made the appointment on March 6.
