Joseph Mauro, a former Siemens healthcare executive, has been named as a managing director in the healthcare practice of Chicago-based Huron Consulting group.
Mauro, 51, will focus on helping physicians and hospitals transition from fee-for-service to value-based delivery systems.
Before coming to Huron, Mauro worked in the healthcare business of German conglomerate Siemens for the past 30 years, serving most recently as national director of strategic accounts.
Scott Evans, a hospital leader with a pharmaceuticals background, has been named senior VP and CEO of Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Calif.
Evans, 44, replaces Michele Tarbet, who served as the hospital's CEO for eight years before she died after a short illness in July.
Before joining Sharp, Evans was CEO at the University of Southern California's Keck Hospital and Norris Cancer Hospital in Los Angeles. He worked at USC's health system for 16 years, also serving as COO and director of pharmacy.
Ellen Smith has been promoted to VP of business development and access at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio.
Smith, 47, joined Summa in 2014 to serve as system director for business development and physician outreach. She will now be responsible for developing strategies to improve patient access throughout the Summa Health System.
Before coming to Summa, Smith was senior director for growth and business development at OhioHealth in Columbus. She also served in several leadership positions at Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health, where she worked for 14 years.
Remley
Dr. Karen Remley, chief medical director of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia, will become executive director and CEO of the American Academy of Pediatrics after Dr. Errol Alden retires in July. She will be the first woman to lead the 62,000-member organization.
Remley, 58, previously was Virginia's health commissioner and oversaw a $560 million budget and a 4,000-employee department.
She worked for 15 years as an attending emergency physician at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Va. Remley also is the founding director of Eastern Virginia Medical School's M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health.
Krishnan
Dr. Mahesh Krishnan has been named international chief medical officer and group VP of research and development to implement global clinical initiatives for DaVita Kidney Care, a unit of DaVita Healthcare Partners.
Krishnan, 44, previously served as DaVita Kidney Care's VP of clinical research, innovation and public policy. Before joining DaVita in 2009, he worked in various nephrology leadership positions with Amgen, leading global health economics and outcomes research for nephrology.
DaVita Kidney Care has operations in 10 countries outside of the U.S., including China, Germany, India and Saudi Arabia.
