Name: Dick Daniels, 60
New role: Executive VP and chief information officer, Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, Calif.
Previous positions: Daniels has been interim CIO since September, when Philip Fasano left Kaiser to serve as executive VP and CIO of insurance giant American International Group. Daniels previously served as Kaiser's senior VP of enterprise shared services, and earlier as senior VP of information technology for health plan and hospital operations.
Action after the Anthem hack: “These hackers are continuing to change their tactics,” he said, noting that safeguarding patient data can't be limited to a single method of protection.
Taking an IT trailblazer to the next level: “We have been a very innovative company in terms of our use of technology. We want to continue that with some of the new tech that is available including cloud computing, mobile technology and data analytics.” Kaiser was an early adopter of electronic health records and other health IT.
Enhancing patient technology: “We want to provide additional functionality, to make it even easier for our members.” He said Kaiser is working on adding digital membership cards, express mobile check-in and expanding its virtual-visit technology.
