Kent Wallace has been named executive VP and COO at Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare, which operates nearly 2,400 healthcare facilities across the U.S.
Wallace, 59, will begin his new role on Feb. 2. In the COO role, he'll replace Benjamin Breier, president and COO, who will take on the CEO role on March 31.
Before joining Kindred, Wallace served as CEO of RegionalCare Hospital Partners, a Brentwood, Tenn.-based operator of community hospitals. He was also president and COO of Vanguard Health Systems, also in Brentwood, where he helped develop the company's integrated-care market strategy.
Wallace has also held positions at Province Healthcare Co., Tenet Healthcare Corp. and HCA.
Last week, shareholders of Gentiva Health Services agreed to sell the home health and hospice company to Kindred. The deal, which is expected to close Feb. 2, moves Kindred closer to becoming the country's largest post-acute-care operator.
