Lyn Ketelsen has been named HCA's first chief patient experience officer, and other news makers

Lyn Ketelsen has been named HCA's first chief patient experience officer.

Ketelsen, who has a background in nursing, will join the Nashville-based for-profit hospital giant on Feb. 23 after working for 12 years at the Studer Group, a healthcare consultancy that specializes in patient experience improvement.

After starting as a staff nurse, Ketelsen worked her way up to become a nurse manager at Davenport, Iowa-based Genesis Health System, where she also served as an internal consultant on customer service strategy. During her time as a clinician, she gained experience in pediatrics and neonatal intensive care.

Charles “Chuck” Stark has been named CEO of Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham, Ala.

Stark, 53, succeeds Garry Gause, who served as Brookwood's CEO for more than 10 years before being promoted to southern region CEO for Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp., Brookwood's parent company.

He joins Brookwood as Tenet and Baptist Health System work to complete a joint venture agreement that would combine Brookwood and Baptist's four hospitals in an expanded healthcare network serving central Alabama.

Stark most recently was CEO of Columbus (Ga.) Regional Health. Previously, he was CEO of Firelands Regional Health System, Sandusky, Ohio.

After 40 years with the Detroit Medical Center system, Iris Taylor will retire this year as CEO of Detroit Receiving Hospital. Taylor, 62, started at the hospital in 1975 as head staff nurse, and steadily worked her way up the corporate ladder, becoming CEO in 2004. She'll end her career with the DMC in March.

After serving as head staff nurse, Taylor became assistant director, director and then VP of nursing services at Detroit Receiving and University Health Center. In 1999, her position was expanded to chief nursing officer and senior VP of patient care within the DMC system. In 2002, Taylor was named president of DMC Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women's Hospital, and later chief business officer.

Joan Kapowich has been named the new executive overseeing accountable care activities in Oregon for Providence Health & Services.

Kapowich, 60, had been administrator of the state of Oregon's Public Employees Benefit Board and Oregon Educators Benefit Board. In her new role, she will lead the overall operation of Renton, Wash.-based Providence's risk-bearing contracts with payers and employers in Oregon.

Previously, Kapowich worked for SAIF Corp. and the Oregon Office of Medical Assistance Programs and has taught health policy and politics courses at Western Oregon University.

Dr. Sachin Jain has been named chief medical officer at Cerritos, Calif.-based CareMore Health System, an Anthem subsidiary that offers Medicare Advantage plans and operates about 50 care facilities in Arizona, California, Nevada, Tennessee and Virginia.

Jain, 34, had been chief medical information and innovation officer at drugmaker Merck & Co. He also was a practicing physician at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System and a lecturer on health policy at Harvard Medical School.

He also served as special assistant to Dr. David Blumenthal, a former national coordinator for health IT, as well as a senior adviser to former CMS Administrator Dr. Donald Berwick, who he helped launch the CMS Innovation Center.
