Gundersen Health CEO Thompson stepping down, and other news makers

Emory Healthcare in Atlanta has appointed new CEOs at two of its hospitals. Marilyn Margolis has been named CEO of Emory Johns Creek Hospital and Daniel Owens has been named CEO of Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Margolis, 60, began her career at Emory as a nurse more than 30 years ago. In 2011, she was named chief nursing officer of Johns Creek and in 2013 also became VP of operations at the hospital. She was named interim CEO last September.

Owens, 43, joined Emory in 1994. During his 20-year career at the system, he has held numerous operations positions within Emory hospitals and at the Emory Clinic. He also served as corporate controller for Emory's finance department. Last September, he was named interim CEO of Midtown, while also holding the title of VP of operations, a position he's had since 2012.

James McManus has been named CFO at Marin General Hospital, Greenbrae, Calif.

McManus, 54, previously was VP of finance and supply chain strategies at St. Joseph Health, Irvine Calif., for 14 years. Before St. Joseph, he was CFO at Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center and Fountain Valley Regional Hospital in Southern California, both owned by Tenet Healthcare Corp. at the time.

Sarah Pacini has been named CEO of the Cooperative of American Physicians, a physician-owned company that provides medical professional liability insurance coverage in California.

Pacini, 39, who has degrees in nursing and law, will become CEO of the cooperative and the organization's Mutual Protection Trust, effective Feb. 1. She succeeds James Weidner, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past decade. Most recently, Pacini was VP of risk management and insurance for Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care, as well as president of Advocate Physician Partners Risk Purchasing Group
