Southern California medical scribe firm Essia Health has purchased Bellevue, Wash.-based Eastside Specialty Scribes. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Eastside is a relatively new entrant into the medical scribe field, which provides doctors with assistants to help with data entry into electronic health records. Founder Dr. Brad Kilcline established the firm in 2014, the company website states. Eastside charges between $20 and $22 an hour for its services, according to its site.
Woodland Hills-based Essia Health, the larger of the two, counts 50 clients, including Providence Health and Services, a Catholic hospital system based in the Pacific Northwest; Denver Health in Colorado; and Milford (Mass.) Regional Medical Center. Essia was founded in 2008.
Kilcline will be joining Essia as a consultant.
This marks the second takeover in the medical scribe sector in recent months. In October 2014, PhysAssist Scribes of Fort Worth, Texas, was acquired by TeamHealth Holdings, a physician staffing firm.
