An additional 102,896 people gained coverage through HealthCare.gov between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2, HHS reported in a blog post Wednesday. That figure is up slightly from the 96,446 that got coverage the week before. To date, nearly 6.6 million consumers selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled in the federally facilitated marketplace.
The enrollment pace is down significantly from the more than 1 million people that signed up in week 4 alone, however. That high occurred in part because of a Dec. 15 deadline to be enrolled in coverage so it would be in effect by Jan. 1.
A new deadline could prompt another major uptick in the next week or so, however. People must sign up by Jan. 15 to obtain coverage starting Feb. 1.
Applications submitted during the week totaled 246,543 as 1,954,996 used the site during the seven days that included New Year's Day.
