Centene Corp. has bought corporate wellness company LiveHealthier, a move that will diversify the health insurer beyond its managed Medicaid core.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. But a spokeswoman for LiveHealthier said St. Louis-based Centene already had a stake in the firm. Centene made a “small capital investment” in 2013, she said. LiveHealthier would not disclose annual revenue.
LiveHealthier provides wellness programs to 50 companies. It will complement Nurtur Health, Centene's health management subsidiary that similarly focuses on corporate wellness through health-risk assessments, biometric screenings and employee assistance programs.
Nurtur falls within Centene's specialty services, which represent about 9.5% of company revenue. Medicaid is Centene's primary business. New state managed-care contracts and Medicaid expansion under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act bolstered the insurance company's finances in the first three quarters of 2014.
Centene is expected to release fourth-quarter and full-year results on Feb. 3.
Mary Moslander, CEO of LiveHealthier, previously worked at the Washington Post and helped establish its website in 1996. She will stay in her current position.
