Steve Carter, a health IT executive with over 30 years of leadership experience, has been appointed CIO and senior VP of information technology at Cambridge Health Alliance, a three-hospital, community-based health system in Cambridge, Mass.
Carter, 60, has been with the system since 2002, most recently serving as senior director of data and development and chief information security officer. He will replace CIO Judy Klickstein, who left the system after 12 years to pursue other interests.
As senior director and CISO at Cambridge, Carter helped the system develop a data warehouse as well as an improved intranet system. He has played a major role in the protection of patient data, and currently oversees IT education efforts, according to a news release.
Before coming to the system, Carter was director of operations improvement for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a not-for-profit multispecialty practice in eastern Massachusetts. While at Harvard Vanguard, he helped the group develop its first intranet and public website.
