Dr. Eric Schneider has been hired as senior VP for policy and research at The Commonwealth Fund, which supports research on health policy reform and health system performance.
Schneider, 53, who is currently the director of the RAND Corp.'s Boston office, and a senior principal researcher and distinguished chair in healthcare quality at RAND, will begin assume his new role at The Commonwealth Fund on Feb. 2.
Serving on the Fund's executive management team, Schneider will oversee research strategy, design and methods, in addition to providing scientific review of the foundation's publications. He currently teaches quality improvement in health care at the Harvard School of Public Health and practices primary care at Brigham Internal Medicine Associates and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Schneider is also a member of the editorial board of the National Quality Measures Clearinghouse and the National Guidelines Clearinghouse, which are databases run by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He's also a former editor-in-chief of the International Journal for Quality in Health Care.
