Joseph Fournier has been chosen as the University of Michigan Health System's chief human resources officer.

Fournier, 38, replaces Deborah Childs, who retired this fall from the Ann Arbor-based system. His appointment is effective in February.

Currently, Fournier is VP and chief human resources officer at UMass Memorial Medical Center and senior human resources officer for UMass Memorial Health Care, both in Worcester, Mass. He is responsible for all labor negotiations within the UMass Memorial system.

Fournier is also an adjunct professor of healthcare administration at Worcester State University, and a former major in the U.S. Air Force.

    McDonnell

    Information Technology

Michael McDonnell, 48, has been appointed chief people officer and Mike King, 50, is becoming VP of global sales at Aver Informatics, a Columbus, Ohio-based company that makes bundled payment analytics software. Their appointments are effective immediately.

McDonnell will focus on talent acquisition, human resources and education. Before coming to Aver, he was VP of global talent acquisition at TOA Technologies, a customer service software company, which was acquired in August by Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Oracle Corp.

    King

King most recently served as VP of global strategic alliances and business development at New York City-based CA Technologies, a software supplier.

Founded roughly four years ago, Aver recently raised $8.5 million from GE Ventures and Columbus, Ohio-based Drive Capital. The company expects to add 40 employees by the end of 2014.

William Moore, 44, is the new CFO at Essia Health, a Woodland Hills, Calif.-based company that provides medical scribes and helps hospitals implement electronic health-record systems.

Moore, who has over 20 years of experience in finance and management, most recently served as CFO of 4medica, a Culver City, Calif.-based provider of cloud-based applications that integrate patient data from multiple sources and settings. He has also served as interim CFO and VP of finance for Mood Media, a Toronto-based digital music company that he helped go public.

    Insurance

Joseph Murphy, 39, will join Coverys, a Boston-based provider of medical professional liability insurance, as COO on Jan. 5, stepping down from his current role as Massachusetts insurance commissioner. He replaces retiring COO Jack Donehue, who will remain at the company in a short-term advisory role.

Murphy comes to Coverys after spending most of his career in Massachusetts state government. He has served as insurance commissioner for the past five years and was first deputy commissioner for the three years prior to that.

In addition, he has served in several leadership roles at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, including chair of the Auto Insurance Study Group and treasurer of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission.

“Joe brings years of experience in the insurance field both at a state and national level,” Gregg Hanson, Coverys' CEO, said in a release. “He has a tremendous track record at promoting innovation in the industry, such as his involvement with implementation of health insurance reform and introducing managed competition into the private passenger automobile insurance market.”
