LexisNexis Risk Solutions, a major supplier of data and data-management systems, announced Thursday its intent to acquire Health Market Science, which maintains one of the largest practitioner-level medical claims databases in the U.S.
The deal will allow LexisNexis to build one of the world's largest healthcare provider databases, it said, integrating HMS' proprietary data into its High Performance Computing Cluster Systems platform. The goal is to helps clients manage risk.
LexisNexis' healthcare products focus on provider management, member management, payment protection and population health management.
The combination of HMS' and LexisNexis' data and data-linking capabilities will help healthcare clients find inefficiencies, manage data, and solve fraud and compliance issues, the company said.
HMS is the LexisNexis' third healthcare acquisition in the past two years. It also purchased Enclarity, another healthcare data provider, and EDIWatch, which makes software designed to limit fraud, waste and abuse.
The latest deal is subject to regulatory review and other customary conditions.
