Three products among the most expensive equipment tracked in the Modern Healthcare/ECRI Institute Technology Price Index saw double-digit increases in the prices that hospitals were paying.
The Technology Price Index provides a monthly snapshot of prices based on three-month rolling averages.
The average price paid for radiosurgery equipment such as stereotactic systems was $2.4 million, up 49.1% from the previous month's data but down 38.7% from a year earlier.
The average price paid for digital X-ray equipment was $223,000, up 15.2% over the previous month but down 5.8% over 12 months.
CT scanners were purchased for an average of $969,000, an increase of 14.9% for the month and 20% for the year. That's because hospitals are buying more premium models, including two that are new to the market.
