The three largest investor-owned hospital operators in the U.S. have now delivered results for the quarter ended Sept. 30. The numbers suggest that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and recovering economy have edged up the companies' adjusted admissions, a measure that reflects outpatient activity as well as hospitalizations.
