Temple University Health System, a three-hospital academic medical center in northern Philadelphia, confirmed Tuesday in audited results what it had reported in its unaudited financials released last month—an operating loss for its fiscal 2014, the result of decreasing patient volumes and large numbers of Medicare and Medicaid patients.
Total acute-care discharges at Temple dropped 3.4% year-over-year in its fiscal 2014. More than 80% of the system's inpatient acute-care discharges were Medicare or Medicaid.
