The Republican GOP governor, who's trailing in the polls in his re-election contest, received CMS approval Aug. 28 for his Medicaid expansion plan. He originally opposed extending coverage to low-income adults. The CMS granted a five-year waiver for the plan, offering coverage through managed-care plans to more than 500,000 residents starting Jan. 1. It will bring in about $38 billion in federal funding over 10 years. New beneficiaries above the poverty level will pay premiums. But Corbett's proposal to tie Medicaid eligibility to employment was nixed.
